The Pink Book

I didn't have time to hit Barnes & Noble before my weekend getaway, so I was left to chose a book from the sundries shop in the lobby of our hotel. The choices were slim, to say the least. They had books by Danielle Steele, James Patterson and Dr. Phil. I was not pleased with the selections at all. Just as I was about to give up all hope and walk out of the store with only an US Weekly in hand, I saw a pink book hiding in the midst of all the crappy mystery novels. I pulled this lonely pink book out from hiding only to find that the book was "Star" by Pam Anderson. I definitely debated this purchase, but it was Pam or Dr. Phil, and we all know that Pam beats Dr. Phil by a mile in more ways than one.

On Saturday, our friends came to join us by the pool. While hanging out sipping cocktails, my friends got a glimpse of the pink book that happened to slip out of my bag. Needless to say, they made fun of me and scolded me for buying this book. They actually just couldn't believe that an English Major would ever buy a book by Pam Anderson. But once I told them my story -- that it was the best of the options in the hotel gift shop -- they understood and I was forgiven.

But of course right before my friends let, my girlfriend told me she wanted to borrow my book when I was through. And I will forgive her for wanting to read Pam as well.
