I realize my Weekend Recap is a few days late, but better late than never.
Friday afternoon -- my friends Shari and John arrived into town so I met them over at the Sagamore (the hotel they were staying at) and layed by the pool all day. After many hours of sun, we went on over to Lincoln Road where we got some Frappacinnos (no clue how to spell that) and did some shopping. Shari got fabulous, HUGE Michael Kors sunglasses. I love them, Ryan hates them.
Friday night -- Me, Ryan, Judson and Cecchino went over to Social Miami at the Sagamore and had some dinner. After dinner, met up with Shari and John and some more friends and then went over to Prive where we got a table, 2 bottles of Greygoose and danced until 5am.
Saturday afternoon -- made it to the pool at the Sagamore by 2pm, with NO hangover. Not sure HOW we didn't have a hangover, but we didn't. Layed by the pool, again, for many hours and had some cocktails. We all went to a late lunch/early dinner at Spy Bar at The Catalina Hotel.
Saturday night -- non- existent. We all went home to take a "nap" and never surfaced. Probably for the best.
Sunday afternoon -- Since we didn't go out on Saturday night, we all woke up at the butt crack of dawn. We were at the pool at the Sagamore by 10:30am. We tanned and had some Bloody Marys. At about 2:00pm, we went to the infamous and cheesy Clevelander for some football, buckets of beer, and wings. YUM! At about 4:00pm, we went back to the beach and layed there till the sun went away. And oh yea, we met a singing cowboy in the beach and he sang songs to us. Very romantic ;)
Sunday night -- We had a fabulous famiy dinner at Sibella on Lincoln Road. A great closer to a fabulous weekend.
I gotta say, having friends in town is expensive and exhausting, but there is nothing better than having good friends around. I swear, I feel like I laughed all weekend long. It's just so great to be with people who really know you -- they accept you for who you are, make fun of your flaws, and help you laugh at yourself for being the crazy person that you are. There is nothing better than surroundig yourself with good friends and people that love you.
Can I just say that I am a complete asshole? I just planned my entire day around Oprah. All day I thought Madonna was going to be on the show, talking about the whole adoption saga. Ummm, NO. Today they are TAPING the show, but it's not airing until tomorrow. IDIOT!
Sorry for my lack of "tabloid" posts, but honestly, I am just SO BORED with all the lame-ass stories out there right now.
I could care less that Madonna is adopting. In fact, the woman SHOULD be adopting -- she has more money than God and employs like 5 personal helpers. She should actually just adopt a tribe.
I could care less that Kevin and Nicky broke up. She is 2 feet taller than him and it should have happened a year ago.
I could care less that Sara Evans quit Dancing with the Stars and that her and her husband are getting a divorce and that he cheated on her. I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF SARA EVANS BEFORE THIS WEEK!
And I could really care less that Brad and Angelina are getting stalked in India. If you are a superstar and you marry a superstar (and you stole your superstar husband from another superstar), THIS IS WHAT YOU GET!!
OK, I feel much better now that I got that all out of my system. Honestly, they are all just so over-exposed. Do you know HOW over-exposed they actually are? I have found myself watching CNN Headline News all week over anything else. Scary right? I know more about North Korea than I ever have in my whole life!
As most of you know, although I am living in Miami right now, I really live in Hawaii and have been living there for 3 years and will be heading back there in December. I have many friends and co-workers there, so hearing the news yesterday hit a little closer to home for me than most. I wanted to share some blurbs that I received from friends -- it really becomes much more personal than just listening to the news (which I think HARDLY gave it any coverage).
"We're all safe and sound here, it was just a little freaky. Woke us up out of a dead sleep - the house was just rolling and shaking. Pretty crazy. We had no power until 8:30 last night, but luckily we're a house of campers so we had propane stoves, lanterns, everything we needed. It was actually a great day playing Scattegories and Cranium"
"We're just a speck on a speck in this great universe. We actually had a 3.8 a month ago that we all felt, but nothing like this one. I've been in a couple of smaller ones in CA, but this was just crazy. Everything was shaking and rolling and it went on for over a minute. Ironically, the dog knew it was going to happen the night before. He was panting and pacing from 6 pm onward, very agitated and we couldn't figure out why. My sister said he woke up at 6 am from a dead sleep next to their bed and just paced the room until it struck at 7:07 am. If dogs could only talk."
"I was walking out the door to go to the gym. I've felt earthquakes in Hawaii before but nothing like this. You know what is so pathetic, I could hear my wine glasses in my kitchen cabinet clanking and all I could think of was "I hope they don't break"...then I thought about my kids :) What an awful Mommy :) All was safe, I ran upstairs to check on them and hugged them to death even with their morning breath...one of my boys slept through the whole thing. The downside was we didn't have electricity until 11pm so we barbequed and played Scrabble by candlelight at night."
"Crazy crazy crazy!!! my house was swaying like it was being pushed by a giant!! woke us up at 7 am with a low rumbiling and then then proceded to remind us that we are all specks on the planet that the earth could easily shake off... we just got power restored at about 945 pm.... its crazy how everyting shuts down when the power goes out... all the things we take for granted.,... im just glad that no one got hurt, that everyone is alright.. 20 plus earthquakes in one day,,., 6.6 earthquake, with 5.9 aftershock.... i wouldnt recomend that for anyone... nuts.. "
"I woke to loud rumbling (I thought it was a sliding closet door closing) and shaking in my 18th floor high-rise. I got up, looked around, and heard people yelling and talking. I looked outside and walked through my apartment. As I was in the middle of my living room the second quake struck. I literally bounced up and down and swayed horizontally from side-to-side to the rumbling of the solid 20-story concrete structure! I've never felt so helpless and scared in my life. It was at this moment I thought of my family, prayed and wondered if I'd make it."
It is all SO crazy to me -- what is really crazy to me, as well, is that I could have been there too. I am just so happy that all my friends are safe...
So, my tickets to the Heatherette show tonight have not presented themselves, unfortunately. Even Ryan wanted to go! Anyhow, the word on the street is that Heatherette and The Hiltons will be at the Sagamore tonight after the fashion show. Since I go there every single Friday night anyhow, I will surely be there as well!
My good friend John is MAKING me post about Babs. He loves him some Barbara Streisand and if I don't post about what happened the other night, he won't be my friend anymore. I know this happened days ago, but basically Babs was doing a skit on the stage, instead of singing, and some fans got really pissed that she was taking so much time away from singing.
This is why you gotta love her though -- she is the only person that can tell a fan to "Shut the fuck up" and get away with it. It didn't hurt that the show was in NYC though. If she was in Kansas, we would have had some trouble brewing! All I gots to say to that is, "You GO Babs!"
So after attending the Harper's Bazaar fashion show last night, I now have this desperate need to go to ALL the shows this week. The main one I NEED to get into is the Heatherette show this Friday night at 9pm. Paris and crew are most defintely going to be there, as well as Perez Hilton (celebrity blogger). I have my connection in NYC working on it, but my chances are only about 40% right now. Not looking too good. If a doctor told you that you a 40% chance to live, you would NOT like that news.
In any event, even if I can't make it to Heatherette on Friday, I will be going to the shows on Saturday at the posh Hotel Nash. Gustavo Cadilla's show is at 6:00pm, followed by Dragana Ognjenovic at 7pm, then Sweetface by JLO at 8pm. The after-party is hosted by JLO, so that should be chaotic to say the least...
I hear that Rocco DiSpirito is at Publix (the local supermarket chain) signing autographs for his new book. Hmmm, is it just me or does it seem that going from being a famous chef in NYC to signing books in a supermarket in Miami means he is going downhill just a little?! He should have stuck with my man Jeffrey Chodorow -- Social Miami is PACKED every night!
OK sorry -- I suck. I haven't posted in days, but I have a really good excuse: I have been partying my ass off.
I already recapped Thursday night for you, and it just got crazier after that. Friday we went to Sagamore (as usual), then Prive, then Mansion. Got home around 6am.
Saturday night we the Moonlight Party at the Ritz Carlton then to the new place Mokai (same owners as Mynt), then to Mansion. Got home around 5am. When we got home, Lindsay and I made tuna, started to watch TV, then Lindsay puked, then we passed out.
Sunday -- beach all day. Then Linds had to leave to catch a flight back to NYC. I stayed in on Sunday night and tried to recover.
Monday night -- I actually went out. I can't believe I went out again. Went to the new Monday night party at Lucky Strike, hosted by Alan Roth. After that, you would think I would just go home, considering it's a Monday night. Nope, went to B.E.D. and got home at roughly 5am.
Tuesday night -- didn't move from sofa, thank god!
Wednesday night -- went the Harper's Bazaar fashion show at the new Carnival Center in Downtown Miami. Show featured Dior, D&G, YSL, and the main reason I was there: Gustavo Cadilla, who is a close friend of a friend. He was the closing designer of the whole show and his dresses are THE MOST gorgeous things I have ever seen. Pics/video to come later when I have more time. After fashion show, hit up the after party at Funkshion.
Told you -- I have been partying my ass off......Miami is crazy -- I can't live here!
Just to keep everyone in the loop:
In my earlier post I said Joe Francis was at Mansion last night -- this is still true. But the ODDEST thing -- he was partying at Mansion with Quincy Jones. HUH?! What could these 2 guys possibly have in common?!?!
Also at Mansion last night -- Kevin Dillon. He is in town with wife and baby. They are staying at the Shore Club. He was there for the release of that Godfather video game -- he was payed by the company who owns the game to be there.
OK, more to come after I hit the town tonight!
My best friend Lindsay is in town, so this whole weekend is going to most definitely be another wild one. It all started last night. We went out with the intention of it being "low-key" so we would have a productive day today. You know how that goes...
We went to Hotel Victor for a few drinks. It happened to be some special event for Nicole Miller and her new line. Nicole Miller and posse were in the house as well.
Around 1:00am or so, we hopped over to Suite -- never a "low-key" night when you go to Suite. Place was packed and music was awesome, as always. Stayed there for a few hours until the balls our feet couldn't take it anymore. We then proceeded to get pizza around 3am and then stumble home.
Oh yea, one more Miami sighting -- Joe Francis in front of Mansion last night, not that anybody cares about him. By just in case someone is a fan of Girls Gone Wild, I thought I'd let you know.
Round 2 tonight -- details to come....
I feel like TV and my DVR are taking over my life!! I have so many shows that I am wrapped up in this season, that it takes me DAYS to catch up! The thing is, is that DVR is making me watch more TV than ever -- without that damn box there would be no way to even watch all these shows. I know, it's a Catch 22. Anyhow, here is my show list this season:
Nip/Tuck
Smith
The Office
Ugly Betty
Friday Night Lights
The Nine
Grey's Anatomy
Six Degrees
What About Brian
Lost
Laguna Beach
Amazing Race
Ultimate Fighter
Sutdio 60
Not to mention Oprah and Ellen every single day. And also not to mention Entourage and The Sopranos, which aren't in season right now....Isn't this insane?!?!
It seems that Adrian Grenier (aka Vince from Entourage) and I were dining at the same place on Friday night -- Social Miami. Located in the Sagamore hotel, it has become my FAV place to go every single Friday night here in Miami. Anyhow, I didn't see him, but it's nice to know that I still know how to pick the best places everywhere I go....
People keep asking me how my weekend was, and I can't even put it into words.....I will try my best here:
Friday -- Dinner at Social Miami at the Sagamore with Ryan, my friend Starr, her boyfriend Michael and my friend John Cecchino. Ran into Dr. Judson and these 3 girls he was with. Also ran into another couple we know through a friend in NYC. After dinner, we headed to the back bar by the pool. Had a few drinks out there. At around 2:30am, me, Ryan and John went over to Suite, where we met up with my friend Jackie from Philly and her boy. Stayed there till it closed at 5:00am.
Saturday -- my friend Brad from NYC was in town, so I went out him with and his friend Rob from Boca. We went to Blue on Espanola Way for a quick drink. After that, we sat on Washington, had a few drinks, and got a hooka packed with some apple flavored tobacco. Great people watching. After that, around 2:00am, we went to Mansion. I danced, saw some friends, and finally went to bed at 4:00am.
Sunday -- Ryan and I somehow got majorly motivated, along with our friend Judson, and went to the Raleigh to hang with Starr and Michael (our friends visiting from NYC). Hung on the beach for a while, then moved over to the pool at the Raleigh -- proceeded to stay at the pool until 8pm -- it was way too relaxing to move.
Monday -- I went BACK to the Raleigh to hang with Starr and Michael some more. We then went to Monty's Raw Bar for lunch. They had to leave to catch their flight, but instead of me going home to do work, I went to Judson's and hung by his pool with him for a little. Finally, roughly around 4:30pm, I went home and did some work. Ryan was home by 6:30pm -- so we went out to a really nice Italian dinner on Collins for no reason at all. We spent over an hour trying to lure some stray kittens home with our leftovers -- it didn't work.
Welcome to Miami.....Life is grand!!
